What is 'SHOPandDONATE'? This Web site was created to benefit the Drew Bledsoe non-profit foundation and raise money to help further our mission. The challenge for every non-profit concern is how to raise money when there are so many other worthy causes clamoring for your attention. Our solution was to capitalize on the fact that you already shop online. If we can encourage you to shop via our links, then we can both benefit. Studies show that most of us do quite a bit of shopping online. We buy books, music, videos, software flowers and even cars. Most of us also make regular charitable contributions to various organizations. If you can access your favorite stores and get exceptional deals - and in the process, make a donation to a charitable cause, everybody wins. That is the driving idea behind SHOP and DONATE. Who
is the Drew Bledsoe Foundation? Our foundation focuses on helping parents learn new, essential parenting skills giving them the tools necessary to create an encouraging, and loving home for their children. We accomplish this through our funding of the Parenting With Dignity™ program. The Parenting With Dignity™ curriculum is presented in a 9 volume VHS video program that has been featured on ABC's 20/20 program with John Stossel and countless other TV, radio and print publications. The Drew Bledsoe Foundation also sponsors a site called Warning Signs. Designed for parents, educators and law enforcement to help protect children who are exposed to threats to their well-being, personal safety and development. These are the 'Warning Signs' for Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking and Gang Violence. |
Why Donate to us? The Drew Bledsoe Foundation is committed to making the world a better place for our kids. To do this, we must begin with parents. Our children don't need to be "fixed", parents need to become better at what they do, raising well-adjusted kids that can make sound, rational decisions. The central premise of our curriculum is:
Whether we like it or not, They will not call home to seek advice when they are offered their first cigarette, crack cocaine, alcohol or have their first sexual encounter. They will respond to these challenges based on what they have learned from their parents. Why this foundation vs. others? Sept. 11th. produced an outpouring of sympathy and charitable giving, the likes of which the world has never experienced. Americans are a giving people, we are the largest contributors to charitable endeavors on the planet. After the tragic events of 9/11, we looked for a way to do something in addition to donating money. What resulted was our sponsoring a Website which was to become a tribute to all Americans. Tens of thousands of people from all over the world have already visited TheFlagPole.com. There you can read people's heartfelt comments about this tragedy and the spirit of the American people. As a result of this horrible attack on America, most of us opened our hearts and wallets and gave unselfishly to the Red Cross and many other new and established charities who pledged to help the victims of this disaster. Today, our country is struggling to regain some semblance of normalcy. We realize that life must go on and the job of raising our children is the most important task we will ever have. We can change the world by making sure that our children know how to make good decisions. To do this, we must teach parents more effective parenting skills that really work. This takes money and commitment. We at the Drew Bledsoe Foundation are more committed than ever, but we need your help. Won't you please bookmark this page and do your shopping via our links. |

A Message
from Drew Bledsoe
Hello and welcome to the Drew Bledsoe Foundation's SHOP and DONATE website. I've been in the NFL now for a few years and while I have been living this dream, I've had a chance to be involved in a number of different charities: Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCAs, The Children's Miracle Network, and others. I have visited schools, attended youth athletic contests and banquets, and other youth activities. While enjoying these activities, I have struggled to find one that really touched my heart, something that came out of my own life. As I looked back I tried to determine what were the things that allowed me to be where I am: to be satisfied with what I am doing, and to be a happy and fulfilled person. Looking back it seemed pretty simple and pretty obvious...my parents helped me the most to be what I am today. As I have had a chance to be exposed to thousands of children all over the United States, I have come to realize that I was very lucky to grow up in my home environment; not every kid has that environment of encouragement and love. My dream with this foundation is to address some of the problems which kids are facing, at their source. I would like this foundation to be a source of information for parents, giving them some tools to use to create an encouraging, and loving home for their children . . . one like I had. My hope is that their home will become a springboard to happiness and fulfillment. I'm young and I certainly would not pretend to have the parenting skills to pass along. I have attended school for some seventeen years and I have received no instruction on how to raise kids, so, I have asked my parents to publish a course which they have been developing and teaching over the past eighteen years. My wife Maura and I have just started a family and we can't wait to start using these skills right along with other young parents. Maura and I have watched and studied this curriculum and we are excited for you to hear it and learn from it. So, if you would like to learn more about Parenting With Dignity, click here. I hope that you can come out of this experience with some usable tools for making life an exciting, positive adventure for your children. Sincerely,
